One of the newest acne treatments that have been introduced to the world are acne lamps. A study was done and published in the British Journal of Dermatology in July of 2000 in which acne lamps were tested. Acne lamps use blue and red light with frequencies of 415 nm and 660 nm respectively to treat mild to moderate acne. The blue and red lights combine to create both an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. Thus, because both of these actions are needed for effective acne treatment, many researchers believe that acne lamps are the most effectual acne treatments. In order to test how well the acne treatment worked, they used several different test groups. The subjects used in the testing of the acne lamps ended up with remarkably clearer skin after only three months of 15- minute- a –day treatments. Thus, for the millions of people that suffer from acne, there is now another alternative that could promote clear, acne- free skin. Written by Kismet W. Johnson
